PDP Jepak declares support for Abang Johari to lead S’wak govt

BINTULU: The leadership of Progressiv­e Democratic Party ( PDP) Jepak is giving their undivided support to Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg to lead the Sarawak state government.

Its chairman Tuai Rumah Banyang Dato said with Abang Johari’s vast political experience and understand­ing of Sarawak’s politics, the latter is in a position to continue enhancing the state’s administra­tion towards a better future.

“As members of PDP which is a component of Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), we will give our full support to him to serve the people of Sarawak and we believe he can carry out his responsibi­lity accordingl­y.

“PDP N67 Jepak will give strong support and will be working closely with the chief minister to fight for the rights of the people of all races and religions in Sarawak,” he said during the PDP Jepak triennial general meeting at a hotel here on Sunday.

During the meeting, PDP Jepak passed a resolution that there should be no contest for the post of party president, presently held by Bintulu MP Dato Sri Tiong King Sing, in the party’s upcoming triennial general assembly in November next month.

Banyang said leaving the president’s post not contested would further strengthen the party.

“I also would like to call on all party members in Jepak branch to strengthen our unity and collaborat­ion so that PDP will remain strong.

“We must remain united and only by respecting each other and with good understand­ing, PDP will remain relevant in many years to come,” he added.

Another resolution passed was to ensure all eight state seats - Tasik Biru, Meluan, Pakan, Krian, Bekenu, Marudi, Batu Danau and Ba Kelalan – are to be defended by PDP and for the party to be given two additional seats during the upcoming state election.

PDP Jepak also passed are solution for the quota of four political secretarie­s to the chief minister for PDP to be maintained.

During the meeting, Banyang won the branch chairman post unconteste­d while deputy chairman’s post went to TR Ajah Umkar and TR Gemat Lebun, Zana Satong and Joni @ Bolhi Yahya were vice chairman 1, 2 and 3 respective­ly.

TR Layang Kesiaw retained his secretary post and he will be assisted by TR Jembu Tangi. Other office bearers include Medani Brain (treasurer), Junis Perman (assistant secretary), Sahperi Juri (informatio­n chief) and Ali Sabri Saber Ali Khan (organising secretary).

The Youth and Women wings of PDP Jepak are led by Barin Medan and Misnah Ashak respective­ly.

TR John Asan, TR Musis Bundung Bala, Tukau Gurutak, Delin Kerempu, TR Luming Jabat, Giling Tunjang and Tr Richard Umkar were appointed as committee members.
