Lions to hold free public health screening in Sibu Jaya on November 4

SIBU: The seven local chapters of Lions Club Internatio­nal will jointly run a free public health screening at the Sapphire East Business Centre in Sibu Jaya here this Nov 4.

The seven are Sibu Mandarin Lions Club, Sibu Pahlawan Lions Club, Sibu Jaya Lions Club, Lions Club of Bawang Assan, Lions Club of Sibu Nangka, Sibu Queensway Lions Club and Sibu Lanang Lions Club.

Heading the event’s organising committee is Yong Nai Kiong, who represents the Sibu Mandarin Lions Club.

According to him, the health screening will run from 8am to 2pm that day.

“There will be health checks on blood sugar, blood pressure and cholestero­l levels, dental care services, breast screening and pap- smear test for women, BMI ( body-mass index) check and also eye screening.

“The volunteeri­ng doctors will be on hand to give free consultati­ons to the public,” he told reporters here yesterday.

Yong said his committee is targeting to receive a turnout of around 200 people that day.

“Those in Sibu Jaya and its surroundin­g areas should grab the opportunit­y to undergo this free health screening,” he said.

Sibu Rural District Council ( SRDC) deputy chairman Robert Lau Hui Yew will officiate at the opening ceremony, scheduled at 10am.
