Jamit holds dialogue at Rumah Robert Ngumbang

-

KAPIT: Bukit Goram assemblyman Jefferson Jamit Unyat recently visited Rumah Robert Ngumbang in Nanga Sebatu near here to attend the ‘ Leader meet the People’ gathering organised by the village security and development committee (JKKK) of the longhouse.

In his speech, he thanked the people there for giving their overwhelming support to Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi during the 14th general which resulted in Nanta winning the Kapit parliamentary seat.

He also said he came to see activities in the longhouse and to inspect the projects implemented there – the road link to the longhouse from the junction of Jalan Kapit- Song and the newly constructed culvert across the river to the longhouse.

He said he was happy that the longhouse was now connected to Kapit and Song through the road, and the road had shortened travelling time to the two towns which previously could be reached only by boat which took a long time and was costly.

He pointed out that Nanta, who was the deputy minister of rural and regional development, played a very crucial role in the construction of the RM700-million Kapit- Song-Kanowit road which began in 2015.

He said all longhouses along the KapitSong-Kanowit road would fi nd it easier to commute and advised land owners to open their land for commercial agriculture.

“With the road, the land now becomes attractive. My advice is don’t sell your land for quick monetary gain because once sold it belongs to someone else. Instead, you should develop your land to generate income and add value to it,” advised Jamit.

He reminded the longhouse residents to rally behind the GPS elected representatives from Kapit so that they could bring in more development.

Later, Jamit announced an MRP grant of RM52,000 or RM1,000 each to the 52 families of the longhouse to buy tiles.

Speaking on behalf of his longhouse folk, Tuai Rumah Robert Ngumbang pledged to give their total support to Nanta and Jamit.

“YBs, you can rest assured that voters from this longhouse will give you their undivided support. We follow your leadership because all these years you have made living here easier and better.

“Now, we have good road to Song and Kapit. Many of my people now own 4X4 drive vehicles instead of outboard engines which were a necessity then. You have helped us from the beginning of the longhouse construction till today. The overhead cable has been laid and now we look toward to enjoying 24-hour electricity supply,” Robert said.
