New Batang Tatau Bridge to be completed by end of 2019

BINTULU: Constructi­on of the new Batang Tatau Bridge is progressin­g on schedule and has reached 37 per cent completion.

The bridge which is scheduled to be completed by the end of next year will greatly ease the traffic flow across the Tatau River as the existing two-lane 486 metre long Batang Tatau Bridge has to cope with all the traffic coming inbound and outbound traffic from the town.

The new bridge will cater for traffic from one of the directions.

WPC- 09 the contractor for the bridge in a statement to The Borneo Post yesterday assured that it go all out to expedite the completion of the bridge.

The upper structure of the Batang Tatau Bridge is prefabrica­ted prestresse­d I- beam structure, sub structure is bored pile foundation, cast-in-place platform and doublecolu­mn elliptical pier with cast-inplace girder.

The main span of the bridge is 150 metres. It has a continuous rigid frame bridge with single-box single- chamber, variable-height, variable- section structure cast- in-place pre-stressed concrete box girder.

The statement added that the project had been implemente­d strictly according to client’s constructi­on plan. All the components and structure met the standard required and accepted by both consultant­s and client.

More than 1,000 jobs for local people had been created since the project started.

WPC- 09 contractor will also undertake the constructi­on of the Pan Borneo Highway Phase 1 Works Package Contract WPC- 09 ( Sg. Arip Bridge to Bintulu Airport Junction) with a total length of 65.553 kilometres and designed two-way four-lane, total width 25.8 metres, including demolition of eight existing bridges, and constructi­on of nine new bridges.
