School sports field should be open to all – Sagah

-

SERIAN: Assistant Minister of Native Land Development Datuk Roland Sagah Wee Inn says that the SJK ( C) Beratok sports field should be open to members of the public and not to the school pupils only.

He said the sports field which was provided and fully funded by the Sarawak government is for all.

“I was told that this field has been used by all for various sports and recreational activities not only by the students.

“This shows that the community here is making full use of this facility and I’m very happy to hear that,” he said at the launch of the SJK Beratok sports field here recently.

An initial grant from the Sarawak government amounting to RM100,000 was given by the previous Chief Minister the late Pehin Sri Adenan Satem for the construction of the sports field.

The allocation, however, was not enough. Sagah who is also Tarat assemblyman then allocated RM300,000 from his rural transformation programme ( RTP) fund for the project completion.

Although the facility was ready to be used, the school management had requested for some funding to fence up the field to prevent dogs from entering.

He however said if the Sarawak government approved the fund request for the fencing, the management of the facility must not prevent the public from using it.

“You may prevent dogs from entering the field, but do not prevent the public or students from nearby schools from using the facility.

“Of course, students and teachers from other schools nearby must seek permission to use the facility from the school management,” he said
