Federal CID teams on audit rounds at district police HQs in Sarawak

-

SIBU: Four teams from the federal Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Bukit Aman are currently in Sarawak to conduct audits on district police headquarters under the Sarawak contingent.

Nevertheless, Federal CID director Datuk Seri Wan Ahmad Najmuddin Mohd, who is leading the audit party, said due to geographical limitations, they would only be able to visit 20 of the 28 district police headquarters in Sarawak.

“Four of the 28 district police headquarters will take more than a day for us to conduct the audit. For those places where the teams are unable to visit, we will engage local officers to do the audit,” he told reporters prior to a closed-door meeting at Sibu police headquarters yesterday.

Wan Ahmad explained that the audit meant to measure the performance of the Sarawak police contingent in providing services for the wellbeing of the people.

Among other things, the audit would involve the manpower, cleanliness of police stations and lock-ups, weaponry, vehicles as well as shortcomings. The fi ndings would then be compiled and presented to the InspectorGeneral of Police, he added.

“Sibu police headquarters is my fi rst stop, and I will head to Miri, Marudi and then Kuching for the audit,” he said.

He also disclosed that being here ‘brought back memories’ as Sibu was his first posting after completing his training at the police training centre in Kuala Lumpur.

“I served here for a year in 1980 prior to being transferred to Miri and later to Baram. During that time, it was still the communist insurgency era and I had to be escorted either by Police Field Force of Border Scouts, whenever I visited the scene of a crime or road accident at Oya Road.”

Wan Ahmad was accompanied here by Federal CID Secretariat principal assistant director Datuk Manoharan Kanapathy and Federal CID D13 principal assistant director ACP Choo Lily.

They were met on arrival by district police chief ACP Stanley Jonathan Ringgit.
