SIBU: All ‘ taska’ (nursery) and kindergarten operators are advised to register their facilities with the government to ensure that the children are provided with quality education.

According to Welfare, Community Well- Being, Women, Family and Childhood Development Minister Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah, there are now 238 registered Taska and 2,800 registered kindergartens in Sarawak.

“Why we encourage them to register (with the government) is because it is against the law to not register – the operators (who do not register) would face compounds or fines.

Meanwhile, Fatimah took time to listen to the issues voiced out by the owner of Ting Cha Hua Kindergarten, including problems in renewing the kindergarten’s licence.

In this regard, the minister informed the owner that renewal would only be possible once the kindergarten building obtained approval for occupancy by the Fire and Rescue Department, Land and Survey Department and the local council.

“These procedures are not meant to make things difficult for the operator – we just cannot compromise on the safety of the children,” stressed Fatimah, reiterating the government’s concern about early childhood education.

“The government has always wanted to make sure that the children would have the right and access to quality education,” she said.
