KUCHING: Assistant Minister of Transportation Datuk Dr Jerip Susil has pledged RM200,000 next year for the construction of a church ( St Maximillian Kolbe) at Kampung Bra’ang Bayur along Jalan Borneo Heights near here.

He said the allocation would add to the RM260,000 already available, which was raised by the villagers through various fund-raising activities run since 2011.

On Sunday, Dr Jerip performed the ground- breaking ceremony, and said he was glad to note the commitment and dedication of the villagers, who wanted the construction of the church to materialise.

He said the construction of the church would help to instil positive moral values in the people.

“I am particularly glad with the commitment of the villagers and people in the area in general for their support to help realise the building of churches and chapels. I will continue to render my support,” said Dr Jerip, who is Mambong assemblyman.

He hoped people in the constituency would continue giving their support, and help with the construction of churches and chapels in their area.

Dr Jerip saidthe St Maximillian Kolbe church, once completed, could become a centre for people in the area to hold their religious activities, and instil positive values among them.

The church chairman Supt ( Rtd) William Poro, Penghulu Richard Daho, Penghulu Tora Tongsen, Persatuan Bidayuh Bra’ang Padawan president Clif Mengud and village chiefs from nearby villagers were among those present at the function.
