222 students receive certs, awards for excellence

MIRI: A total of 222 Form 5 students of SMK Dato Permaisuri here received certificat­es and awards during an appreciati­on ceremony held at one of leading hotels here yesterday.

The ceremony, which was officiated at by Pujut assemblyma­n Dr Ting Tiong Choon, also witnessed the presentati­on of excellence awards to eight Form 5 students, who did very well this year.

Three students who received the Fajar College Excellence Award 2018 were Suhaimi Suffian, Jemina Hana Satu and Mohammad Aniq Ashwin Abuzar, all Science 5 class 1.

Three other students who received the IBS Excellence Award were Aliffudin Akbar Mohd Tarmizi (from 5 MPED class), Nurul Amira Literary Kamal ( 5A) and Kitty Kho Hui Ting (5 Science 2)

Meanwhile, the recipients of Riam Technology Institute’s Excellence Award 2018, were Kho Yea Tyan (5A) and Vincent Wong Lee Wang (5B).

According to the school’s PTA chairman, William Lim, the success and achievemen­t of the students were due to motivation and encouragem­ent from the teachers and parents, apart from the students’ effort.

Dr Ting meanwhile said the goal of bringing Malaysian education to the internatio­nal standard needed all sectors to participat­e in the process, be they students, teachers, parents, communitie­s, businesses and the government.

He said our education system was undergoing changes and renewal in line with the change of social evolution.

The school principal Haslinda Jedi, and DAP Miri youth chief Peter Hee were among those present at the function.
