Children’s education continues when they’re at home — Rosey
MIRI: Parents should not leave the responsibility of teaching their children solely to teachers but instead must ensure that their children’s education continues on when they are at home.
“Various efforts are being made to help students become ‘education explorer’ instead of ‘education follower’ to prepare them for the needs in the 21st century,” said Assistant Minister of Women, Family and Childhood Development Rosey Yunus in a press release here yesterday.
She said this when officiating at a ceremony to present excellent education awards at SMK Suai on Monday.
“All this while, we thought parents’ involvement in children’s education at school happens naturally but with current global challenges and changes taking place, strong collaborative effort through a specific method needs to be carried out by all relevant parties in ensuring our children’s success. Thus their education does not stop in school but it continues at home,” she added.
Rosey also urged educators to always strive to improve the quality of education and the orientation of teaching and learning must move forward from rote learning to mind-stimulating learning
“Educators need to be aware that the public, especially parents are always measuring the achievement based on the quality standards that have been promised, thus guidance is importance and the student’s achievement in terms of academic only is not enough because selfdevelopment aspect in every student should also be taken into consideration.
She said further: “Students must be encouraged to think creatively and innovatively and I hope all parties, be it the parents, the educators and students must work together in ensuring their success because they are our future leaders.”
