Malindo Air touches down in Kolkata, India

PETALING JAYA: Malindo Air OD281 has started its new services between Kuala Lumpur Internatio­nal Airport ( KLIA) and Kolkata, departing from KLIA at 9.55pm on Monday.

The inaugural flight, with 162 passengers on board, was sent off by High Commission­er of India in Malaysia, Shri Mridul Kumar and Malindo Air’s chief executive officer Chandran Rama Muthy at KLIA.

The 3 hour and 55 minutes flight arrived at Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Internatio­nal Airport at 11.20pm. Upon arrival, a cake cutting ceremony was held in the airport to celebrate the inaugural flight.

The 5 weekly flight is operated with a narrow- body Boeing 737 aircraft, comprising of 12 Business Class and 150/168 Economy Class seats. The returning flight from Kolkata OD282 is scheduled to depart at 12.10am and arrive in KLIA at 6.35am. Chandran Rama Muthy, CEO of Malindo Air said, “With the addition of Kolkata, we have expanded our outreach in the region of India, servicing 72 flights weekly including our code share flights with Batik Air to Chennai.

“The Kuala Lumpur – Kolkata route is anticipate­d to boost passengers’ traffic for both business and leisure segment to and from Malaysia and beyond, while supporting our contributi­on to Malaysia Airport’s vision to be the recognised regional hub of Asia. Our premium services with competitiv­e fares, practical flight timings and option for Business Class offer a wholesome value to our passengers. The acting group chief executive of Malaysia Airports, Raja Azmi Raja Nazuddin said, “We are pleased that our airline partner, Malindo Air is expanding their services to Kolkata via KLIA.

“This is the airline’s 8th route to India and it will be a definite boost to the connectivi­ty factor for Malaysia, apart from the long-term economic and tourism contributi­ons. We look forward to many more new adventures with Malindo Air.” Promotiona­l fare is offered at RM499 for Economy Class and RM899 for Business Class one way from Kuala Lumpur.
