S’wak-born singer-songwriter Zee Avi to perform tomorrow

-

KUCHING: Zee Avi, one of Malaysia’s most successful international singer-songwriters, will be at the What About Kuching ( WAK) 2018 Music Portal stage at the Old Courthouse here tomorrow (from 8pm) .

Fans and festival- goers can anticipate a musical journey featuring the singer’s known songs and a couple of new tunes.

“I am very excited to be performing in Kuching soon as it is my native land and island,” said Zee, who last performed here in July 2017.

“I always have a great time when I am back in Sarawak, and it’s a pleasure to perform for my fellow islanders. Of course, I’m also looking forward to eating the local dishes - mee kolok, umai, buah tepus, all of it!” she added.

Although her musical career has taken her around the globe, Sarawak- born artiste Zee Avi always has her home state in mind.

“I feel and think as a Sarawakian.

“My open views and perspectives are shaped by my cultural background - born and raised in a place that’s a prime example of unity and diversity, that has a rich cultural and tribal sense of community and beautiful music.”

The singer also expressed her enthusiasm about supporting home- grown festivals such as What About Kuching.

“I know for a fact that Borneo has amazing, gifted talents, and I hope fellow Sarawakians will be able to have more platforms to showcase these talents, so we can all feel proud of each other.”

Zee Avi recently performed at the Soundrenaline 2018 in Bali, and at the Concrete and Grass Festival 2018 in Shanghai.

Her newest single ‘ Who Are You’, will be released next month ( November), while her fourth album is expected to be launched in early 2019.
