‘Cheap politics’, Abg Johari says of Chong’s comment on MA63 Steering Committee
KOTA SAMARAHAN: Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg regards the remarks by Pakatan Harapan ( PH) Sarawak chairman Chong Chieng Jien on the composition of the Malaysia Agreement 1963 ( MA63) Steering Committee as ‘cheap politics’.
He was asked about Chong’s comment after presiding at the 22nd Unimas convocation at DeTAR Putra at the university here yesterday morning.
“I don’t want to talk about it ... it’s cheap politics,” he said without elaborating.
Chong had on Monday said the majority rule did not apply when asked about the composition of the MA63 Steering Committee at one of the functions he attended in Kuching.
The Deputy Minister of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs said Abang Johari, being one of the committee members, should not have any fear, as to him (Chong) composition of the committee did not matter.
According to Chong, it is not about number because the Steering Committee does not go by majority or show of hands, saying the whole problem lies with the attitude of the former Sarawak Barisan Nasional ( BN), now Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), which always thought that things must happen in this way.
Prior to this, Law Minister Datuk Liew Vui Keong had revealed in Parliament that the federal Cabinet had agreed to the formation of the committee which will comprise representatives from Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak who have expertise in this matter.
Abang Johari is in the Steering Committee together with the Sarawak Attorney General.
