‘MYTV should provide explanation on broadcast interruption’

-

KUALA LUMPUR: Communications and Multimedia Minister Gobind Singh Deo wants MYTV Broadcasting Sdn Bhd ( MYTV) to release an official statement on the company’s present position.

He said it was important for MYTV as a broadcast service provider to take seriously complaints on broadcast interruption from the public and provide feedback on the matter.

“(The company) should explain their position as soon as possible, state the problems and measures taken to address them,” he said on his Twitter yesterday.

Gobind Singh said he had instructed the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission ( MCMC) to prepare a report on the problems facing MYTV and to hand it over to him soonest.

He said this in response to a question from a Twitter user, @ niniey_ rashid, on whether the MYTV service would be terminated and claimed that its broadcast in Kelantan had been interrupted for a week.

Another user, @ ssafuan01, wanted to know how long more would there be interruption in MYTV broadcast .

Last Oct 11, MCMC, in a statement, said the disruption in the Digital Terrestrial Television ( DTT) services was due to some unresolved commercial issues between MYTV and its vendor.

However, it said viewers would still be able to watch free- to- air television services on the current analogue platform.

To a question by @ DonZukri on monopoly in MYTV, Gobind said the ministry was looking into it.

MYTV was appointed by the government to develop and operate the infrastructure and network of DTT for the country to migrate from analogue to digital television.

Meanwhile, MYTV, on its website, confirmed disruption in the DTT broadcast in Sarawak, Sabah, Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang, Negeri Sembilan, Melaka and Perak and that efforts were being made to restore the service. — Bernama
