48 make it to the Borneo Talent Awards final

SIBU: A total of 48 participan­ts out of 163 individual­s and teams taking part in the 8th Borneo Talent Awards ( BTA) have made it to the final on Nov 23 - 24 at the Sibu Town Square.

Of the finalists, eight are from Kuching, 10 from Miri, seven from Bintulu, eight from Kota Kinabalu and 15 from host Sibu.

Sibu Municipal Council chairman Datuk Tiong Thai King said the BTA is aimed at developing and enhancing talent discovery throughout Sarawak and Sabah.

He said BTA is an open contest for both locals and foreigners to showcase their talents.

“Talents can be in the form of singing, dancing, playing musical instrument­s, performanc­e magic shows, mimic shows, pantomime, and acrobatics,” he pointed out.

Tiong said they are also evaluating elements of creativity, artistic skills, presentati­on, choreograp­hy and uniqueness in their judging criteria.

Meanwhile, Tiong disclosed that SMC’s Calendar of Events for 2019 will include the annual Sibu Tower Run on March 10; the Borneo Cultural Festival and Sibu Street Art Festival from July 1827 at Sibu Town Square; the Sibu Internatio­nal Dance Festival from Aug 13-17 at Sibu Civic Centre; the Borneo Talent Awards (BTA) from Nov 22-23; Sibu Christmas Tree Decoration Contest from Dec 1031; and Sibu Bike Week from Dec 6- 8.

“These events shall culminate in the countdown to 2019 on Dec 31at the Sibu Town Square,” he said when speaking at the council’s monthly meeting yesterday.
