Rep to use RTP fund to repair damaged school buildings

-

KUCHING: Balai Ringin assemblyman Datuk Snowdan Lawan says the Sarawak government will repair the school building damaged by strong wind during a storm at SK Abok in Sri Aman.

Snowdan gave the assurance when The Borneo Post asked him about the damaged school buildings posted in Facebook, yesterday.

He said the Sarawak government decided to fund the repair of the school as waiting for the federal government to come out with the repair allocation would take ages.

“In the fi rst place education and schools are under the purview of the federal government. But to wait for the fund from the federal government to repair schools in Sarawak would take forever. Thank God we have the Rural Transformation Programme ( RTP) introduced by our former Chief Minister the late Pehin Sri Adenan Satem and also some other form of state funds. Sarawak government will come to the rescue.”

Snowdan said repairs could not be done immediately as the cost of the repair would have to be determined before sending the proposal to the Resident Office before approval could be given to use the RM5 million RTP fund allocated to his constituency.

He said he was already aware of the damage before the Facebook posting as he had been informed about it by the school authority earlier on.

He added that he had announced the approval of the setting up of a Taska and school hall extension at SK Abok.

Balai Ringin constituency has one secondary school and 19 primary schools and out of that, eight are in poor condition and in urgent need of repair.
