Five men, including three brothers, charged with armed robbery

KUANTAN: Three brothers, with one of them an officer with the Malaysian Maritime Enforcemen­t Agency ( MMEA), and two fishermen friends pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court here yesterday to a charge of committing armed robbery.

The brothers – teacher Muhamad Aminruddin Kamal Bashah, 31; Malaysian Palm Oil Board employee Muhammad Nur Adnan Shah Kamal Bashah, 29, and MMEA officer Muhmmad (muhmmad) Rezal Kamal Bashah, 39 – and their two friends – Muhammad Suhaimi Abdullah, 20, and Abdullah Saat, 56 – made the plea before Judge Siti Aminah Ghazali.

The five men were jointly charged with committing armed gang-robbery, whereby they were alleged to have robbed a tonne of squid, worth RM20,000, from a fishing boat, which had a foreigner as the skipper, when armed with a pistol in the waters off Rompin at about 3.15 am last Wednesday.

They were charged under Section 395 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 397 of the same law, and faced an imprisonme­nt for up to 20 years, and is liable to whipping, if found guilty. Siti Aminah allowed them bail of RM8,000 in one surety each and fixed Dec 5 for mention.

The prosecutio­n was conducted by deputy public prosecutor Farahah Mohd Nazari, while lawyers Anwar Ab Raof and Mohd Faizal Hiqram Azmin represente­d the five accused. All the five accused posted bail. — Bernama
