UCTS to offer Bachelor of Technology Management

-

SIBU: University Col lege of Technology Sarawak ( UCTS) will be having its first intake for Bachelor of Technology Management ( BTM) under its School of Business and Management in February next year.

In a press statement released here yesterday, UCTS said the programme is introduced in line with its vision to become a global university founded on science and technology.

BTM will be another programme focusing on technical and vocational training ( TVET) combined with management knowledge, science and technical skills, added the press statement.

UCTS vice- chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Khairuddin Ab Hamid said the new programme is hybrid in nature.

“UCTS is equipped with advanced facilities to support the programme which combines the development of essential business principles and skills with emphasis on the fundamental role that technology plays in managing the business enterprise,” he explained.

“Apart from learning technology management, undergraduates will also be exposed to business management, engineering, computer science as well as vocational operation subjects.

He added that the programme emphasises hands- on skill and knowledge in TVET rather than theories to bridge the gap between vocational and academic programmes in Malaysia.

Graduates will get Vocational Training Officer ( VTO) license upon graduation which allows them to become trainers or teachers at TVET institutes or vocational institutions.

“Alternatively, graduates can become technology managers or technologists. It is the role of the technology manager in business to make decisions about the organisation’s operational use of applicable technology while taking into account how the decisions will affect the organisation’s budget, employees, customers, and profitability.

“When seeking a technology manager, employers prefer candidates with a strong technology background as well as a solid understanding of business practices,” Dr Khairuddin said.

He added that UCTS Bachelor of Technology Management programme provides undergraduates with the knowledge and skills to lead businesses or organisations with the integration of business and management skills and understanding of the tech environment.

Entry requirements are a pass in STPM with a minimum of Grade C (GP 2.00) in any two subjects, and a pass in Mathematics and English at SPM level or equivalent; or pass STAM with a minimum grade of Jayyid and a pass in Mathematics and English at SPM level; or any qualifications equivalent to a Diploma or Advanced Diploma ( MQF, Level 4 or 5); or Matriculation/ Foundation qualifications with a minimum CGPA of 2.00 out of 4.00; or a pass in UEC with five (5) Grade B’s; or other equivalent qualifications recognised by the Malaysian government.
