Padawan bowlers’ run rolls on

KUCHING: Padawan bowlers bagged two out of the four gold medals at stake in the 32nd Asian Intercity Bowling Championsh­ip ( AIBC) at Megalanes Sarawak yesterday, bringing their gold medals haul to three at the end of the second day of competitio­n.

That made them the leaders in the medals table with three gold, three silver and one bronze medals, followed by Paranaque ( Philippine­s) with two gold and two si lvers, and Shah Alam with one gold and three bronze medals.

Padawan’s first gold of the day was delivered by Mohamad Amran Mohd Sa’at and Abang Jamallidon Abang Ullie who scored 2,416 pins in the men’s senior doubles.

Coming in second place were Genaro Tan- Gene Basa of Paranaque with 2,393 pins while Louie Lui- But Wing Kwong of Kowloon were third with 2,350 pins.

Padawan followed up with a seniors double when Nor Azizah Mohamad and Iyliana Abdullah knocked down 2,065 pins over six games to top the podium in the women’s senior doubles.

Maimunah Arshad and Datin Raki’ah Ali made it a one- two finish for Padawan in this category when they scored 1,886 pins while the Bandar Seri Begawan pair of Shirley Burnett and Poziah Atan settled for the bronze with 1,878 pins.

The women’s doubles saw Anne Marie Dianne Kiac and Maria Lourdes Arles of Paranaque knocking down 2,550 pins to beat silver medallists Nerosha Keligit Thiagaraja­n and Gillian Lim Siew Giok of Padawan by 32 pins.

Kuching picked up their first medal in the championsh­ip when the pair of Nurafidza Mohd Amran and Caroline Chien felled 2,450 pins for the bronze medal.

Another Padawan pair Dayang Yumi Azreen Abang Azman and Nur Aina Kamalia was fourth with 2,387 pins.

Meanwhile, Lei Hok Kin and Lee Tak Man presented Macau team with their first gold after they registered a total of 2,804 pins in the men’s doubles.

Noah Taimanglo and Jeremiah Camacho took the silver with 2,629 pins while Rickle Tam and Leo Tse of Happy Valley were third with 2,591 pins.

Today’s team events wil l commence at 9.30am, with four more golds on offer.
