SMK Tebedu hosts Serian Division STEM carnival

TEBEDU: SMK Tebedu, a secondary school located near the border with Indonesia, hosted a two- day Serian Division-level Science, Technology, Engineerin­g and Mathematic­s (STEM) carnival from Oct 31 to Nov 1.

Education, Science and Technologi­cal Research Minister Dato Sri Michael Manyin, who officiated at the closing ceremony on Wednesday, said STEM is now vital since Malaysia needs to leapfrog to Industrial Revolution 4.0 from the present IR2.0

He explained that it is for this reason that the government is

emphasisin­g STEM and English Language so that the younger generation are ready to take on the jobs and opportunit­ies under IR4.0.

He also said the ministry and Department of Education are working together to conduct Training of Trainers, to train teachers to be more effective in the teaching and learning of STEM.

“We need to ensure our younger generation can survive in what is now, a hyper connected world. The roles of teachers are important (in this aspect),” he said.

Manyin also presented prizes to winners of the various competitio­ns held during the carnival. Also present were acting Tebedu district officer Joseph Liaw and Serian education officer Milon Sayeng.
