MCC residents’ committee on registration mode
MIRI: The residents’ committee ( RC) of Miri City Council ( MCC) is conducting an open registration for its community neighbourhood and crime watch WhatsApp groups at two locations here today and tomorrow.
Coordinator of the WhatsApp groups, Alexander Voo said the group would be at Saberkas night market from 1pm until 6pm today, and at Krokop 10 Market from 711am on Sunday.
“We invite Mirians who are 18 years and above to register with us at any of these two locations. For verification, they have to produce their identify cards or passports.
“We want more Mirians to be involved in community work and crime watch activities especially in their respect RC areas in order enhance peace and harmony,” Voo said when contacted yesterday.
Over 3,000 Mirians have registered with the WhatsAppgroups for Krokop, Piasau, Pujut, Lutong/ Tudan, Permyjaya, Vista Perdana, Senadin, Taman Tunku and Lopeng/Riam.
The WhatsAppgroups created under MCC’s RC in 2009 is aimed at improving the council’s services and enhance the safety and security at residential areas.
“Members of the WhatsApp group, a community- based unit serves as the eyes and ears of the council in its effort to improve its services, and the police in enhancing secutry. Combined patrols with the police too are conducted when necessary,” he added.
The WhatApp group also serves as an effective tool in fostering closer relationship as well as maintaining peace and harmony in residential areas.
RCs in areas under the jurisdiction of MCC are divided into 15 zones, and a group of councillors is taking charge of each zone.
