DAP exco member now heads Bintulu Port Authority
KUCHING: The Democratic Action Party ( DAP) Central Executive Committee member Dr John Brian Anthony is now the chairman of Bintulu Port Authority ( BPA).
According to Transport Minister Anthony Loke, Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has approved the appointment following a proposal by DAP Sarawak.
“I have signed the appointment letter and he (John Brian) will start work immediately to ensure that BPA would run efficiently and effectively,” Loke told reporters after officiating at the opening ceremony of the ‘18th DAP Sarawak State Ordinary Convention’ in Crown Square here yesterday.
In his remarks John Brian, 63, gave his assurance that with his vast years of experience in management, he would strive to bring efficiency and productivity to the port authority.
“I will try to bring down the cost of goods that go through the port, as well as to make sure that stakeholders and port users receive the best of services from the port, which is the property of the government.”
John Brian also acknowledged that his task as the new BPA chairman would be a ‘very heavy one’.
“There are so many things that BPA has intention to do – these will be monitored closely.”
Born in Sebauh, Bintulu, John Brian holds a PhD in Management from Southern Cross University, Australia. He has been carrying out management consultancy services in Malaysia, Indonesia and Singapore.
Previously, the BPA chairmanship was held by Hadzari Abang.
