Soo dwells on MA63, OMO58 at public talk

-

SIBU: A public talk on Malaysia Agreement 1963 ( MA63) and Sarawak Oil Mining Ordinance ( OMO) 1958 was conducted by revisionist historian and author Lina Soo at a hotel here yesterday afternoon.

Available for purchase at the talk were two books, which she authored on Sarawak based on the British declassified colonial documents obtained first-hand from the National Archives in London - ‘Sarawak The Real Deal’ and ‘Sarawak Chronicle’.

Also on sale were compilation of Sarawak and Malaysia documents - OMO 1958, and Amendment 2018, Inter- Governmental Report 1962 and its interpretation by the Colonial Office, Malaysia Act 1963 - into one bumper edition for easy reference.

Soo enlightened the audience about the effects and implications of OMO 1958, which was the ultimate game changer for Sarawak in its need to strengthen its economic independence and sustainability.

She said Sarawak remains the landowner with possession and sovereignty over oil and gas found in Sarawak as was already ordained long before the formation of Malaysia.

“We don’t have to be a beggar in our own land. There can be no compromise with Petronas over OMO58, which spells out Sarawak’s rights over oil and gas very explicitly,” said Soo at the talk.

She also briefed the audience on MA63 and the MA63 Special Committee.

The session ended with a debate involving all participants in order to draw up a resolution to reflect the people’s aspiration for a stronger Sarawak, which would be presented to the State Legislative Assembly.

Chairman of Parti Bansa Dayak Sarawak Baru ( Central Region) Julius Enchana also gave a talk on ‘Dayak Agenda’ and ‘NCR’ issues at the talk.
