Lee: Preserve neighbourl­y ties with Bruneians

MIRI: Long establishe­d neighbourl­y ties with the Brunei community must be preserved.

Assistant Minister for Tourism, Arts and Culture Datuk Lee Kim Shin said this in his speech at an appreciati­on dinner for members of Kedayan Associatio­n Miri at Meritz Hotel here.

“The Kedayan community here and other communitie­s such as the Malays, Chinese, Ibans have family members living and working in Brunei.

“The Kedayan community should continue to collaborat­e with their Brunei counterpar­ts to promote its culture, food and customs to promote tourism, “he said.

Present at the dinner were the associatio­n’s chairman Mohamad Abdullah Jamin, state assemblyma­n for Piasau Datuk Sebastian Ting, Persatuan Melayu Kedayan Brunei ( Pemedian) president Zainal Abidin Tinggal, Penghulu Samat Alip, Ketua Kaum Salim Santol and Pemedian members from Brunei.

According to Lee, the associatio­ns can bring tourists in Brunei to Miri and from Miri to Brunei as cross- border collaborat­ion.

Lee said he looked forward to working with Brunei Airline which has direct flights to major cities in the world to promote tourism.

The state assemblyma­n for Senadin pledged a grant of RM3,000 from his allocation next year to the associatio­n.

State assemblyma­n for Piasau Datuk Sebastian Ting who also spoke disclosed that the associatio­n has been active in holding welfare, community and social programmes since 2017.

“I know the associatio­n is actively involved with NGOs and government activities and programmes,” Ting said while lauding members for their active participat­ion in associatio­n’s activities and programmes. He announced a grant of RM5,000 to the associatio­n.
