Good Samaritans aid charity homes

-

KUCHING: A group of Good Samaritans from Kuching recently raised funds to assist two charity organisations at Jalan Landeh, Kota Padawan and Kampung Duyoh, Bau respectively.

The recipients namely Home of Peace and Community-Based Rehabilitation Centre ( PDK) Sinar Harapan received food rations comprising rice and other essential items to reduce their expenditure.

Voluntary social worker Lim Chee Haw handed over the items to the recipients in separate occasions recently.

According to Lim, they have assisted the Home of Peace several times already. Home Of Peace is a centre for the elderly set up by the Catholic Welfare Services Council Sarawak (CWS) which now houses more than 20 persons including those who are wheelchair users.

As for PDK Sinar Harapan at Kampung Duyoh, he said this was the first time it received such aid. The PDK currently provides care to 18 disabled persons including some as young as five years old.

“I thank the donors who responded to my request to help these organisations. Some of us are not even of the same faith as the recipients, but that did not stop us from helping them.

“We believe in helping the deserving people irrespective of race or creed,” said Lim, a retired marine police personnel now devoted to charity work.

He thanked a Mr Law and family from Foochow Road No 2, Fook Lai Construction in MJC Batu Kawa, a Mr Hii and Mr Chia from Jalan Matang as well as others for their assistance in this latest charity act.

On a related matter, Lim said he can be contacted at 082248153 or 016- 8070388 to assist poor families who require coffins for the funeral of a departed family member. He explained that cash donations from Good Samaritans are ‘parked’ at a coffin shop here to be used whenever a genuine request was received.

So far, such assistance had been rendered to families at Kampung Sadir in Puncak Borneo, Sungai Apong here, Kampung Murud Plaman near Serian, Kampung Sinjog near Siburan, Kampung Sabang in Simunjan, Kampung Tanah Merah at Mile 27 of KuchingSerian Road, and Kampung Mantung Marau in Serian.

He also reminded the public that he can be reached only through his fixed line and mobile phone, as he does not have Facebook, WeChat or any other social media account.
