Army veteran Kapit’s top blood donor
KAPIT: Sergeant ( Rtd) Ari M S Maniam was named the top blood donor here with 106 pints for the year 2017. He was one of 116 blood donors in 2017 to receive certificates of appreciation.
Assistant Minister of Water Supply Datuk Liwan Lagang presented Ari with the most prestigious and highest Malaysian Red Crescent ‘Diamond Certificate and Medal’ for his extraordinary selfless humanitarian efforts to save lives.
The occasion was MRC Kapit’s 3-in-1 function last Saturday, of celebrating World Red Crescent Day, presentation of certificates to regular blood donors, and enrolment of Voluntary Aid Detachment ( VAD) at the civic centre here.
Ari, 58, is a veteran soldier originating from Johor but now lives in Song. He began to donate blood in 1979.
“I will continue to donate blood because I feel it is the best way to help people in dire need. I used to donate blood at Kapit Hospital once every four months. Now, I do it at Song Health Clinic,” said.
Liwan’s wife Datin Rosnie Bilang, a political secretary to chief minister Nicholas Kudi Jantai, chairman of MRC Kapit Dr Sia Tih Kong, Bukit Mabong District Officer Douglas Pungga, Kapit SAO Philomena Asin, First Aid instructor Ayong Andam, and Nursing Superintendent Evelyn Biju were among those present at the function.
Apart from Ari, others such Poh Ah Bee who donated 85 pints, Wong Ting Seng ( 82 pints), Chua Su Hock (77 pints), Matjeh Janjam ( 73 pints), Chuo Kok Lung ( 65 pints), Ling ZlanChien ( 64 pints), Pui Ing Sin ( 64 pints), Wee Kiong Siong ( 63 pints), Chua Chun Han ( 58 pints), Anthony Ling Chee Hock ( 58 pints), Chua Chung Han ( 58 pints), Mohd Zaidi Abdullah ( 57 pints), Wong Ting Teck ( 57 pints), Malaeng Ujai ( 54 pints), Wong Man Sing ( 54 pints), Grace Ting Sii Hui ( 53 pints), Wong Kiong Lai ( 53 pints), Dominic Ting Wong Ling ( 52 pints), Tiong Nai Hing ( 51 pints), Tiong Siew Chiong ( 51 pints), Mah Poh Lee ( 49 pints), Soon Peng Hai ( 48 pints), and Ngieng Hock Sin (47 pints) also received the diamond award.
