Samarahan food fest a boon to local entreprene­urs — Abdul Karim

KUCHING: The 10- day inaugural Samarahan Internatio­nal Food Festival 2018 came to a close yesterday with the knowledge that it had generated massive income for local entreprene­urs and traders who had also gained exposure for their business.

According to the Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah the festival had attracted massive crowd and generated huge income for the local traders.

The festival which was organised by the Samarahan Resident’s Office in collaborat­ion with local agencies had also featured events like pocket bike race, gokart race, exhibition­s and cat show.

“As the festival is held for the first time, the organisers had faced many challenges and obstacles, but these will give experience to them to improve for the next one,” he said in a text of speech read by Sadong Jaya assemblyma­n Aidel Lariwoo at the closing of the festival held at Summer Mall Kota Samarahan yesterday.

He noted that the event also promotes sportsmans­hip and foster closer ties betweenthe­organisers­andthecomm­unity. Other activities held in conjunctio­n with the food fest were a concert by newly crowned Most Popular Artist in Malaysia Wany Hasrita, agricultur­e market, karaoke competitio­n and giant bubble blowing contest for children.
