Third Miri Afrolatin Fiesta Feb 28-March 3, 2019
MIRI: Dance enthusiasts are reminded to mark their calendar as the third edition of Miri Afrolatin Fiesta will be happening on Feb 28 to March 3, 2019 at Eastwood Valley Golf and Country Club.
Some 150 participants from Malaysia, Indonesia, Europe, Singapore, Australia, Sri Lanka and Canada are expected at the four- day event.
According to the event’s founder and organiser Dr Safrina Othman, the success of the previous two events have attracted more participants to next year’s event.
“To ensure that all participants and spectators could thoroughly enjoy their stay in Miri, we will be collaborating with the local travel agencies to do a pre- event tour. Last year, the Miri city and sunset tours were so enjoyable, many had complimented Miri and our efforts. Thus, we are driven to bring on more excitement to the fiesta,” said Dr Safrina.
In an effort to attract more people to the fiesta, she revealed that they will organise a ‘ Miri Creative Dance’ competition which will happen on March 1, 2019 from 7pm to 9pm.
The competition is open to all genres with two categories – Category A: kids below 12 years old and Category B: Open (13 years and above).
“The slogan for this competition is ‘ Be Creative, Be You’, that calls on all dance enthusiasts to showcase their passion in dancing to others.
“No matter which genre you are good at, dancers are welcome to share their passion. Not only they will be winning prizes, the winner will get the chance to dance in front of the international artists coming from all over the world during the Miri Afrolatin Fiesta Gala Night on March 2,” she said during a courtesy visit to Miri mayor’s office yesterday.
Mayor Adam Yii, on the other hand, welcomes the event, as a great opportunity to promote Miri and its places of interest.
“There are a lot of potential in Miri. They ( participants) could take their time to visit around and learn more about our resort city.
“Since the success of the previous two editions, we are happy to welcome more international participants, introducing Miri and more importantly, boosting Miri’s tourism industry,” said Yii.
