‘Holistic education the focus of Kemas kindies’

KAPIT: Pre- schools under the Community Developmen­t Department ( Kemas) aim to provide children with an all-round developmen­t in preparing them to enter primary school.

Kemas assistant director Joseph Unsung said apart from teaching the basics of reading and writing, they also seek to instill confidence and self- discipline in the children as well as promote good physical health.

“At Kemas kindergart­ens, we impart basic learning skills such as reading, writing and calculatin­g, as well as focus on social interactio­n, physical wellbeing, and building selfdiscip­line and confidence in the children,” he said.

Speaking at the graduation ceremony involving 28 Kemas kindergart­ens from Pelagus and Bukit Goram constituen­cies yesterday, Joseph also extended his appreciati­on to parents and the local community for their active involvemen­t in activities organised by Kemas, saying it is important that they take a keen interest in their children’s education.

A total of 205 pupils received their scrolls during the miniconvoc­ation.

There are a total of 40 Kemas pre- schools in Kapit – Pelagus ( seven), Katibas (12) and Bukit Goram (21).
