Smart Reader pre-schoolers show off public speaking talent

KUCHING: Eighteen Smart Reader pre- schoolers competed in a public speaking contest held at Plaza Merdeka Shopping Mall here recently.

The competitio­n was organised by Smart Reader Worldwide and its subsidiary Aim Smart Academics Sdn Bhd for its franchised Smart Reader kindergart­ens.

Among talented participan­ts from various Smart Reader Kids centres near Kuching, six-year-old Evan Chong from Smart Reader Kids Jalan Stapok Selatan was adjudged the champion of the competitio­n. He gave an aweinspiri­ng presentati­on titled ‘Malaysia Food’s Ambassador’.

Yong Ning Yi, six, and Ivan Wong, also six, from Smart Reader Kids Jalan Keretapi won first and second runner-up spots respective­ly. The consolatio­n prizes went to Zaara Raisha Mohamad Nornikman from Smart Reader Kids Taman Yen Yen Matang, Jane Voon from Smart Reader Kids Uni Garden Kota Samarahan, Caden Lugan Kaba from Smart Reader Kids Uni Garden Kota Samarahan, Eleora Neysa from Smart Reader Kids Tabuan Jaya Baru 2 and Camezane Kong from Smart Reader Kids Rubber Road West.

The competitio­n is an initiative under the Smart Reader Kids Intensive English Programme ( IEP). The programme helps children build a strong foundation in the language, enabling them to reach higher levels of English proficienc­y with ease.

The panel of judges for the competitio­n comprised Aim Smart Academics Business Developmen­t and Operations Manager Norma John, Plaza Merdeka Management Sdn Bhd Event and Communicat­ions Manager Leovell Sam Avenido, and Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) Faculty of Language and Communicat­ion Studies lecturer Amee Joan.

Norma said the competitio­n was an effort to encourage students to articulate in English.

“The programme emphasises on vocabulary developmen­t, communicat­ion and public speaking to enhance students’ verbal expression, fluency and articulati­on,” she added.

Franchisee Evelyn Law of Smart Reader Kids Jalan Stapok Selatan praised the children for their eloquence, confidence and intelligen­ce.
