Padawan bowlers clinch Asia Intercity bowling championsh­ip

KUCHING: Padawan team made a major breakthrou­gh in the 32nd Asia Intercity Bowling Championsh­ip (AIBC) when they emerged victorious from the prestigiou­s event that ended at Megalanes Sarawak, E-Mart Batu Kawa last Sunday.

This was the second time that they are participat­ing in this championsh­ip, the first was in 2015 when Kuching also played host.

With a squad of former and current Sukma bowlers, Padawan collected 36 points ( men’s and women’s divisions) to be crowned the overall champions, finishing ahead of Paranaque ( Philippine­s) and Happy Valley ( Hong Kong) who scored 25 points and 20 points respective­ly.

A delighted Padawan team manager Robert Lu hailed his team for a superb performanc­e.

“Our bowlers have performed very well. They were up against the national and ex-national bowlers especially from Philippine­s, Hong Kong and Macau,” said Lu who is also the event’s deputy organising chairman and vice president of the Amateur Tenpin Bowling Associatio­n of Sarawak (Abas).

He said Padawan might defend its overall crown in the 33rd edition to be held in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam next year, depending on their financial situation.
