It’s Wind Chaser in a gust

- By Scoop

KUCHING: Wind Chaser blew away the competition to move within reach of a tilt at the champion pony title in Race Five (Class 1 – 1000M) on Sunday.

The eight-year- old was quickly into stride from a good jump in the first-used walk-up start, making an early break as the field jostled for positions on settling down.

The Edmund Sim-trained brown galloper, given every chance by Roslan Bujang, never broke a stride in a fine display of front-running prowess to post a comfortable victory, paying a dividend of RM13.

Monolita (Mahrub Wahab) was second nine lengths back with Suaji ( Othman Putit) a distant third.

With the victory, Wind Chaser has inched to just one win behind the leader Dream Catcher II who has four wins.

Wind Chaser will be the Pony of the Year if he wins on the Second Day on Nov 11 – the last day of 2108 racing season

-- by virtue of having more minor placings otherwise the champion pony contest is done and dusted in favour of Dream Catcher II.

To date, Dream Catcher II has four wins, one second, one third and one fourth while Wind Chaser has three wins, four seconds, no third and one fourth.

Either way, the accolade will go to W Stable as both the runners in contention are racing in the colours of the Stable.

Cherokee greeted the judges after returning from a long spell in Race Three (Class III –1000M).

The six- year- old who was brought back to racing with a recuperative break over the past couple meetings, duly rebounded in his first start after the time- off to register an emphatic win.

The rangy galloper was always travelling a tat too well for the field, striding out fluently to the finishing line to win by a distance, paying RM8.

Bintang Kilong (Jasmi Kamar) finished second with Sofia Pet (Mazlan Bujang) third, two lengths further back.

Cherokee, owned by W Stable, is the first leg of a double on the day for trainer Edmund Sim.

Little Apache (Jasmi Kamar) ended a long losing sequence by taking out the Class Four field over 1000M in Race Two.

The eight-year- old kept up a bright gallop to beat Perfect Dancer ( Mazlan Bujang) by five lengths with Elturius (Akirzull Othman) third, six lengths adrift.

The winner, owned by Penny Stable and trained by Lee Moi Fong, paid a good dividend of RM32.

Little Apache was second leg of a double for Lee who saddled the Class Five Junior Champ (Mazlan Bujang) in Race One over 1000M.

The 10-year- old cantered home by a distance from Chenlimah ( Amirzull Othman), paying a dividend of RM17.

Dragon Master (Jasmi Kamar) dropped in for a long third.

The going was yielding.
