Primary school celebrates opening of new hall

JULAU: The official opening of SK Nanga Entaih’s newly completed school hall near here saw a hive of activities being held last Saturday evening.

Twelve football teams competed for the top three positions with cash prizes of RM1,000, RM700, and RM400 respective­ly.

A Sepak Takraw competitio­n attracted a total of 24 teams while poco-poco and ‘Bertaboh added to the merriment.

The event culminated with a dinner cum stage show with over 600 diners packing the new hall.

Meluan Assemblyma­n Rolland Duat who gave an allocation from his rural transforma­tion project ( RTP) for the new hall officiated at the event.

In his brief speech, Rolland assured that all schools in Meluan would get their share from his annual RTP and minor rural project fund.

While several schools would be selected to receive fund for upgrading of facilities like school hall each year, all schools would get a share from his annual MRP fund, priority would be given to urgent cases, he stressed.

He announced an allocation of RM50,00 to replace the school old water pipes, RM10,000 for organising events and another RM3,000 purchase teaching and learning materials.

The local community can could look forward to better living standard with more fund from Sarawak government for basic infrastruc­ture projects like roads, electricit­y and water supply, he added.

Rolland said the Chief Minister had given the nod to tar- seal Engkamop/Entabai road by 2019 or 2020, to be followed by a stretch from Kubu Brooke to Rumah Gerasi.

A RM79 million water supply project has been also approved to cover Meluan/Entabai and areas along KJD Road, he added.

Headmaster Stephen Johnson Jenau and parent-teacher associaito­n chairman Marthin Mut who also spoke thanked Rolland for the great help accorded to schools, especially SK Nanga Entaih.
