Kindergart­en teachers, pupils visit Bomba station

LIMBANG: Kemas Kindergart­en LAKIL A, B, C, and D yesterday took their pupils and teachers on a study tour to the Fire and Rescue Department ( Bomba) Limbang to help them better understand the duties of Bomba and fire safety issues.

Bomba senior officer II Mohamad Ali Mohamad Salleh told the press here the visitors were enlightene­d not only on firefighte­rs’ roles but also survival skills in the event of a fire outbreak.

“They were taught survival skills such as ‘ Stopping, lying on the ground and rolling to extinguish fire on their clothing. This is just to give early exposure to the pupils on the basic firefighti­ng skills where the firefighte­rs gave a demonstrat­ion.

“The pupils also tried on the uniform of Fire Safety Kids Club ( 3K) to give them some form of encouragem­ent to choose becoming firefighte­rs when they grow up later,” he said.

According to Mohamad Ali, Bomba received many requests this year from schools and kindergart­ens in Limbang District to visit their station due to an increase in awareness among schools, students and parents on the importance of having firefighti­ng skills and knowledge,

“As of November this year, Bomba received over 30 applicatio­ns for such visits from kindergart­ens, primary schools and associatio­ns,” he said.

Head of the visiting entourage who is also Kemas LAKIL A officer Mariam Usut said: “This is one of the co- curricular activities that we organise before the school holidays and through this visit we hope the children can acquire basic skills on firefighti­ng and understand the role of firefighte­rs.”

Also present were Parents and TeachersAs­sociation(PTA)Tabika Kemas LAKIL deputy chairman Morshidi Tuah and officers of the Kemas LAKIL B, C and D Safiah Naim, Siti Ardila Pedi and Anne Brahim respective­ly.
