Organiser expects 50 contingents for Maulidur Rasul 2018 event in Miri

MIRI: The division-level Maulidur Rasul 2018 celebration will host more than 50 contingents for its city-wide procession next week.

According to a spokesperson, the committee has confirmed the registration of 49 contingents taking part in the event, which commemorates the birthday of Prophet Muhammad P. B.U. H. on 12 Rabiulawal in the Hijrah calendar, which falls on Nov 20 this year.

The ceremony is scheduled to commence around 8am at Miri Indoor Stadium.

“We expect more contingents to come and register at the last minute, before the closing date this Thursday ( Nov 15),” said the spokesperson yesterday.

He said so far, 12 contingents registered under Category A ( Schools, Institutions of Higher Learning and Technical Centres), 13 contingents each under Category B ( Departments and Bodies) and Category C (Mosques and Suraus), three contingents under Category D ( Private Firms, Companies and Banking Groups), and eight contingents under category E (Associations, Clubs, Organisations and Hadrah Groups).

“These contingents are also vying for the ‘ Best Sepanduk ( Banner) Award’. The procession will also be joined by the VVIPs. The route will begin at the stadium, leading out to the heart of the city before ending back at the stadium,” said the spokesperson.
