MPI set to have new four-storey building

SIBU: Methodist Pilley Institute ( MPI) located in Lily Road here will have a new four- storey building costing RM8 million to replace the existing two- storey block in about a year’s time.

MPI chief executive officercum-principal Hii King Kai said the existing block built in 1971 would be demolished when the new building is up and running in about 14 months’ time.

Sarawak Chinese Annual Conference president Rev Dr Tie King Tai, MPI Board of Management honorary chairman Hii Ching Chiong, chairman Chang Jih Ren and district superinten­dent for Methodist Churches, Rev Kong Chiong Ling were among those present.

According to the principal, the existing block is no longer able to cater to the increasing number of students.

“We’ve over 1,000 students presently,” he said, adding more students are expected to enrol when the institutio­n introduces new programmes next year.
