JKR S’wak implementing agency of state-funded school projects – Ministry

-

KUCHING: Public Works Department (JKR) Sarawak will implement all projects for the rebuilding or upgrading of schools which are funded by the state government.

The Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Research ( MESTR) yesterday clarified that the ministry is the client agency that is responsible for the preparation of the proposal, the scope of works and bidding for the fund.

“All processes and procedures for the implementation of the projects are done by JKR Sarawak. These include the appointment of consultants, preparation of tender documents and specification of works,” said MESTR in a statement issued yesterday.

MESTR also explained that for the relocation and rebuilding of SK Ulu Segan in Bintulu, open tender for the project was called on November 10 this year while for SK Maludam in Betong, it will be advertised on Nov 17 this year.

“Both are open tenders and will strictly follow the State Procurement Procedures. The whole process right from design, tender, award of the projects, project management and supervision up to the issuance of Certificate of Practical Completion are handled by JKR Sarawak.

“This is the normal practice of the state,” it said.

The SK Ulu Segan and SK Maludam projects are under walkabout projects announced by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg.
