Good Samaritans donate daily essentials to temple, home
KUCHING: A group of Good Samaritans recently pooled their resources to purchase basic food items which they donated to a Hindu temple and a Christian charity home here.
The group’s representative, voluntary social worker Lim Chee Haw said the donation helped to reduce the financial burden of the recipients.
Sri Srinivasagar Kaliamman Temple in Ban Hock Road received food items like potatoes, rice, milk, sugar and others for the temple’s recent Deepavali celebration.
Meanwhile, Home of Santa Clara, a retirement home for Catholic nuns located at Jalan Airport received food items and adult diapers. The home currently cares for more than 10 elderly nuns from 80 to over 90 years old.
“It is nice to see the spirit of giving back still strong in our society, especially among those who have achieved success and are willing to help the less fortunate members of our society irrespective of race or religion.
“I thank the donors who responded to my request for help though they practise different religion,” said Lim, a retired marine police personnel devoted to charity work.
Lim said he can be contacted at 082 248153 or 016- 8070388 ( but not through social media) for assistance to poor families who require coffins for the funeral of a departed family member.
He explained that cash donations from Good Samaritans are ‘parked’ at a coffin shop here to be used whenever a genuine request was received.
So far, such assistance had been rendered to families at Kampung Sadir in Puncak Borneo, Sungai Apong here, Kampung Murud Plaman near Serian, Kampung Sinjog near Siburan, Kampung Sabang in Simunjan, Kampung Tanah Merah at Mile 27 of KuchingSerian Road, and Kampung Mantung Marau in Serian.
