Suhaimi Said receives Bill Kayong award
SHAH ALAM: Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) yesterday conferred the Bill Kayong Award, which was introduced for the first time at the 2018 Keadilan National Congress, on the late Suhaimi Said for his contributions and services since joining the party on Nov 27, 2007.
From January 2008, he established the Kuala Krau, Maran and Pahang divisions, assisted by Razak Hussein, Suhaimi Abdullah and Man Kadir, known as Pak Jabit. Until to date, the Kuala Krau division had many branches in the Orang Asli settlements and Malay traditional villages that were in the past not approachable including Kampung Paya Luas, Kampung Gong Halt, Kampung Datuk Sharif Ahmad and several other areas.
He was previously the chairman of the PKR Indigenous People Bureau and PKR Felda Bureau and Pahang PKR deputy chief. Suhaimi died on Nov 5, 2013 in Temerloh due to bone and liver cancer, leaving his wife Hajah Hendon, three children and five grandchildren.
The Bill Kayong’s award was created to remember and appreciate the struggles of PKR figures in the party.
Meanwhile, the division’s award was awarded to divisions that had successfully recruited members this year, namely, Kota Bharu, Pensiangan, Serdang, Hulu Selangor, Puchong and Negeri Sembilan which accounted for the highest number of membership.
Meanwhile, the staff award was given to party staff members who had served the party for a long time. Among the award recipients were Amran Kamarudin who has served 11 years, Rizal Kushairi Mat Zaki (14 years) Nurhuda Mohd Zainudin (14 years) and Zara Zahari (19 years).
All the awards were presented by party president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail accompanied by PKR’s presidentelect Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and PKR secretary-general Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution.
The event this morning, at the Ideal Convention Centre (IDCC), here was also accompanied by a poetry recital by National laureate Datuk A Samad Said and a special video show on the struggle of Dr Wan Azizah at the start of PKR in 1998 until the party formed the federal government after the 14th General Election in May.
More than 2,000 delegates attended the three-day congress from yesterday which was also the last congress of Dr Wan Azizah as PKR president before being taken over by Anwar who won unopposed in the recent election. — Bernama
