Each Youth Day special, grand in its own way

SIBU: Each Youth Day is special and grand in its own way, and if it is held in a small town, it has to be down-sized and if in a big city with good facilities and accommodation, a bigger one will be most appropriate.

Saying this was Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah when contacted yesterday, and asked if there were plans to host the youth day in Sarawak in a bigger scale in the future.

The ministry’s permanent secretary Hii Chang Kee meanwhile said the ministry had lined up many colourful and funfilled events for the youths in Sibu in conjunction with the state-level Youth Day, which is celebrated from Nov 16-18 at Sibu Indoor Stadium.

Assistant Minister of Youth and Sports Datuk Snowdan Lawan officiated at the Youth Kitchen and Youth Entrepreneurs stalls which attracted 40 youth entrepreneurs.

“The event, a prime feature of the celebration each year, provides a platform and opportunity for local young entrepreneurs to showcase their food, products and services.

“We are glad that many youths nowadays have come up with creative and innovative ideas in showcasing their products and services. Hopefully, the event will encourage youths to be innovative and courageous in their venture into the marketplace.”

Snowdan also toured the stalls set up in conjunction with the celebration.

Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg will declare open the celebration today.
