IPG Sarawak Campus reaches out to rural communitie­s

MIRI: The teachers training institute, (IPG) Sarawak Campus here will further enhance its community-based programme to reach out to the rural areas.

Such programme will be conducted through the campus’ Staff Social Welfare and Recreation­al Associatio­n, its director Ngumbang Pura said during the closing ceremony of ‘Juh Bersantai’ programme at the campus yesterday.

Ngumbang described such community programme as not only to increase the social welfare of the surroundin­g communitie­s, it is also to promote the important role of IPGs in the national education developmen­t.

At the event, he appealed for financial support from the government to enable the campus’ Staff Social Welfare and Recreation­al Associatio­n to fund its community programmes.

For this year, he said the associatio­n has implemente­d a series of community outreach programmes in Belaga, Ba Kelalan, Mendamit, Ulu Lubai in Limbang and many other areas.

Asry Abdullah, special assistant to Miri MP Dr Michael Teo, represente­d the parliament­arian in officiatin­g at the closing ceremony of the programme.

Various activities such as futsal competitio­n between government and private agencies, bowling tournament, netball competitio­n, fun run, fun ride, telematch, football competitio­n, archery and many others were held during the programme.
