IPG Sarawak Campus reaches out to rural communities
MIRI: The teachers training institute, (IPG) Sarawak Campus here will further enhance its community-based programme to reach out to the rural areas.
Such programme will be conducted through the campus’ Staff Social Welfare and Recreational Association, its director Ngumbang Pura said during the closing ceremony of ‘Juh Bersantai’ programme at the campus yesterday.
Ngumbang described such community programme as not only to increase the social welfare of the surrounding communities, it is also to promote the important role of IPGs in the national education development.
At the event, he appealed for financial support from the government to enable the campus’ Staff Social Welfare and Recreational Association to fund its community programmes.
For this year, he said the association has implemented a series of community outreach programmes in Belaga, Ba Kelalan, Mendamit, Ulu Lubai in Limbang and many other areas.
Asry Abdullah, special assistant to Miri MP Dr Michael Teo, represented the parliamentarian in officiating at the closing ceremony of the programme.
Various activities such as futsal competition between government and private agencies, bowling tournament, netball competition, fun run, fun ride, telematch, football competition, archery and many others were held during the programme.
