Some 1,000 to take part in Saberkas Happy Run

MIRI: About 1,000 people are expected to participat­e in the Saberkas Happy Run scheduled to take place on January 13.

Assistant Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Datuk Lee Kim Shin said the event is organised by Saberkas Senadin and will take place in Permyjaya here.

“We chose a new venue in Permyjaya as the population in the area is high and the location is also strategic,” he told a press conference yesterday.

He added that the run will start from Permymall and participan­ts will be flagged off at 6.15am.

Lee who is also Senadin assemblyma­n disclosed that the event will have seven categories including the Fun Run category (4km) which has no age restrictio­n and no prizes.

The other categories are Men and Women Open (12km), Men and Women Veteran (12km) as well as Family Boys and Family Girls (4km).

The winner in these six categories will each receive RM300, followed by RM200 for the first runner-up, RM100 for second runner-up and RM80 for the fourth place. The fifth to tenth place winners will each receive RM50. All top ten winners will also receive a medal.

Early birds registrati­on fee for the Men Open, Women Open, Men Veteran and Women Veteran is RM40 before the closing date which is December 10. Those registerin­g after the date will be charged RM50.

For the Family Boys and Family Girls category where each team comprises one adult and one child aged between six to 12 years old, the early bird fee is RM80 per team while the late registrati­on fee is RM100.
