‘Be in one voice to claim state’s rights’
MIRI: Sarawakians must be united in calling on the federal government for Sarawak’s rights to be returned to the state.
This is important to ensure the fight to regain the state’s rights under the Malaysia Agreement ( MA63) which was started by the late chief minister Pehin Sri Adenan Satem become a success, said Piasau assemblyman Datuk Sebastian Ting.
“Like the other political parties, Sarawak United People’s Party ( SUPP) is very concerned on the matter and we will continue to talk about Sarawak’s rights under MA63.
“When the people asked me why the previous leaders had not done anything to safeguard Sarawak’s rights, I could not give them the answers.
“But now, it is our time to get back the rights which belong to us,” he stated to The Borneo Post after officiating at the Bowling Friendship Match organised by SUPP Piasau branch Women and Youth sections held at Megalane

On this note, Ting, who is also SUPP secretary general, wanted members of the party’s Youth wing to go to the ground and explain to the people the present situation in Malaysia as well as Sarawak.
“We need and must come together in one strong voice and continue with what had been done by the late Tok Nan (Adenan Satem) as he has created this movement.
“Thus, we have to stay united to safeguard our autonomy.”
While striving for Sarawak’s rights, the state government, he pointed out, had formulated more people- oriented policies including looking at every means on how to assist the business community in Sarawak.
“Although the economy in general is quite slow, the state government will continue to do the best for the people and bring comprehensive development to urban, sub-rural and rural areas.”
On the preparation for the next state election, he said it was ongoing and the party was moving on the ground as usual.
“The term for the state assembly will expire in May 2021 and the next state election would be the most challenging as the fight would be more about safeguarding the interest and the rights of Sarawak.”
Earlier, the organising chairman Rachel Chan said the main objective of the match is to foster closer relationship between members of the party’s youth and women sections.
Chan said a total of ten teams participated in the friendly match which offered medals and cash prizes to the winning teams.
