KUCHING: United People’s Party ( UPP) will have a new name and new party logo following its rebranding exercise.

The outcome of the exercise is expected to be announced by party president and Minister of International Trade and ECommerce Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh next month. UPP Youth chief Dr Johnichal Rayong Ngipa, who disclosed this yesterday, said the party will hold its Extraordinary Delegates Conference ( EDC) here on Dec 8.

“The Central Youth Committee supports the Central Working Committee’s ( CWC) decision to rebrand the party. We are going to have a new logo and new party name.

“We shall leave it to our party president to announce the details during the forthcoming EDC,” he told a news conference after chairing a UPP Youth Central Committee meeting at the party’s headquarters here.

According to Rayong, the CWC arrived at the decision to go for rebranding exercise last Oct 27.

Asked why UPP had decided to rebrand, he said the exercise ‘is to make our party more relevant to the people’ particularly in view of the change in political landscape after the last general election.

“We want to have a new image. More importantly, we want to be more relevant especially after the 14th General Election,” he stressed.

The UPP Cent ra l Youth Committee also pledged its full support to Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg for his leadership and political views on ‘ Sarawak for Sarawakians to rule’.

“We fully support the Chief Minister especial ly in his endeavour relevant to MA63 ( Malaysia Agreement 1963),” stressed Rayong.

He added that they trust that the Chief Minister, with his wisdom, will be able to resolve issues pertaining to MA63 effectively and move Sarawak forward.
