Anwar new PKR president, Azmin deputy president

SHAH ALAM: Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim was yesterday officially declared as the president of PKR, a party which was founded from the 1998 reformatio­n movement to fight for justice for himself at that time.

Deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali retained the party’s number two post after defeating his challenger, Mohd Rafizi Ramli.

The winners of the four vice president posts are Nurul Izzah Anwar, Zuraida Kamaruddin, Dr A. Xavier Jayakumar and Tian Chua.

The announceme­nt was made by PKR Election Committee chairman Datuk Rashid Din at the 13th PKR National Congress at the Ideal Convention Centre ( IDCC) here yesterday.

Anwar, who was earlier PKR de facto leader, won the PKR president post unopposed for the 2018- 2021 term in the election which was conducted in stages since July.

The Port Dickson MP took the party’s number one post from Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah, who had been holding the post since 1999. She did not defend the post this time.

On Friday, Lembah Jaya assemblyma­n, Haniza Mohd Talha, was declared as PKR Wanita chief while Sementa assemblyma­n, Dr Daroyah Alwi was elected as her deputy.

For Keadilan Youth wing, Johor Bahru MP, Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir won Youth chief post while Gombak Setia assemblyma­n, Hilman Idham, was elected as his deputy.

On Saturday, delegates in the 13th Congress unanimousl­y agreed to appoint Dr Wan Azizah as PKR Advisory Council chairman.

The post of de facto leader held by Anwar earlier was abolished. — Bernama
