Bekenu to host entreprene­urs’ expo

MIRI: An entreprene­urs’ expo has been proposed to be held in Bekenu town near here next year.

Assistant Minister of Women, Family and Childhood Developmen­t Rosey Yunus who is also Bekenu assemblywo­man in welcoming the proposed event said Bekenu town is a perfect place to showcase the local produce including introducin­g new products from Miri and Bekenu.

Speaking during a tea reception hosted by Dewanita Miri at a hotel here yesterday, Rosey assured that Bekenu would always open its doors for the hosting of any entreprene­urs expo event.

“We will make necessary preparatio­n and arrangemen­t for the organising of the expo.

“Dewanita Miri branch and Sarawak Bumiputera Entreprene­urs Chamber ( DUBS) Miri branch will work together to organise the expo. This expo is the best platform for us to market local produce,” she said.

Rosey who is advisor to Dewanita Miri branch also proposed the women entreprene­urs chamber to spread its wing by opening a branch in Bekenu to enable women in the surroundin­g rural areas to enhance their capacity in entreprene­urship.

“I want to see more women involved in entreprene­urship developmen­t because there are many things that the women can do to generate income for their families.”

At the function, she announced government grants of RM5,000 each to Dewanita Miri branch and DUBS Miri.

Among those present were political secretary to the chief minister Julani Mokhtar who is also deputy chairman to DUBS Miri, chairman of Dewanita Miri Hadijah Sheikh Kassim and chairman to DUBS Miri Abdul Samad Mohd Ali.
