Christophe­r Lona Bintang Radio WAIfm Miri 2018 champion

MIRI: Christophe­r Lona emerged champion of Bintang Radio WAIfm Miri 2018 after beating five other finalists in the competitio­n’s final held on Saturday night.

Christophe­r also won the Best Vocal title and took home total cash prize of RM2,500, trophy and certificat­e.

Second place went to Alias Spikal who took home cash prize of RM1,000 while Emmanuel John won the third place and RM700 prize money.

Both also received a trophy and certificat­e each.

Three other finalists Milous Bacuk, Velleze Anoi and Anna Lyn each received consolatio­n prize of RM300, a trophy and certificat­e.

RTM Sarawak senior assistant director (radio section) Tabad Sakai presented the prizes.

Also present were RTM Miri station manager Zaidi Bujang, senior assistant director (television engineerin­g) Ariffin Awang and Permymall Miri manager Kelvin Liew.

Earlier when addressing the participan­ts, Assistant Minister of Local Government Datu Penguang Manggil described the competitio­n as a platform to scout local talents.

“We encourage those with talents in the entertainm­ent industry to take part in competitio­ns like this so that their talents can be developed in order to boost the local entertainm­ent industry.

“Not only the singers get to expose themselves, but composers and lyricists also get to showcase their masterpiec­es, particular­ly in Iban songs,” he said.

Penguang praised RTM Miri for its role in finding and polishing new talents to enable them compete in the entertainm­ent industry.

At the function, he announced a RM10,000 grant for RTM Miri Social club to carry out its activities.

Bintang Radio WAIfm Miri 2018 was organised by RTM Miri in collaborat­ion with MIRIfm Social Club and Naim Group Of Companies.
