Christopher Lona Bintang Radio WAIfm Miri 2018 champion
MIRI: Christopher Lona emerged champion of Bintang Radio WAIfm Miri 2018 after beating five other finalists in the competition’s final held on Saturday night.
Christopher also won the Best Vocal title and took home total cash prize of RM2,500, trophy and certificate.
Second place went to Alias Spikal who took home cash prize of RM1,000 while Emmanuel John won the third place and RM700 prize money.
Both also received a trophy and certificate each.
Three other finalists Milous Bacuk, Velleze Anoi and Anna Lyn each received consolation prize of RM300, a trophy and certificate.
RTM Sarawak senior assistant director (radio section) Tabad Sakai presented the prizes.
Also present were RTM Miri station manager Zaidi Bujang, senior assistant director (television engineering) Ariffin Awang and Permymall Miri manager Kelvin Liew.
Earlier when addressing the participants, Assistant Minister of Local Government Datu Penguang Manggil described the competition as a platform to scout local talents.
“We encourage those with talents in the entertainment industry to take part in competitions like this so that their talents can be developed in order to boost the local entertainment industry.
“Not only the singers get to expose themselves, but composers and lyricists also get to showcase their masterpieces, particularly in Iban songs,” he said.
Penguang praised RTM Miri for its role in finding and polishing new talents to enable them compete in the entertainment industry.
At the function, he announced a RM10,000 grant for RTM Miri Social club to carry out its activities.
Bintang Radio WAIfm Miri 2018 was organised by RTM Miri in collaboration with MIRIfm Social Club and Naim Group Of Companies.
