Juniors grab 6 top 10 finish in Damai Masters Amateur

SANTUBONG: Junior golfers stole the limelight at the inaugural Damai Masters Amateur Open Golf Championsh­ip at the Damai Golf and Country Club ( DGCC) yesterday, with six of them making the top 10 finish in the individual gross category.

The most outstandin­g of them was Malcolm Ting Siong Hung from Kelab Golf Bintulu who shot a one- under 71 on the first day, two- over 73 on the second day and three-under 69 yesterday for a three- day total of three- under 213 to walk away with the SEDC Challenge Trophy.

Other juniors in the top six were Aziel Teo Ken Yi ( fourth - 222), Matthew Peregriine Ong ( fifth - 227), Benjamin Ethan Ngelingkon­g ( sixth - 228), Bernard Yeo Chun How (ninth - 232) and Nazrul Iman Nasarudin (10th - 233) respective­ly.

Kelab Golf Bintulu’s Aw Yong Jhie Jgin, who won four majors this year, had to be contented with the second place after he returned a three- day total score of 220 strokes while Sarawak top ace Lee Ka Tung staged a strong comeback to finish third on 222 strokes to beat Aziel Teo on count back ( OCB).

The sevent h and eighth placings went to Lee Kah Ming and Lau Ching Leong with 229 and 230 strokes respective­ly.

Raden Bustari Raden Samsudin f rom Kelab Gol f Bintulu claimed the nett crown after he carded a three- day total of 208 and Teng Kim Fui became the biggest winner in this event after finishing second with 210 score and walking away with the grand prize of the lucky draw which was a return air ticket to Perth, sponsored by John Lee of Rosewood Station, Australia.

Finishing in third to fifth spots were Jumat Muhi ( 215), Hardy Abu Bakar ( 216) and youngster Elden Sim Zhen ( 219).

Meanwhi le, Dato Kho Kak Beng and Datuk Ik Pahon Joyik won the VIP gross and net t titles with scores of 86 and 65 respective­ly.

The winners of the Invited Guests gross and nett categories were Bernett Ling Soon Kiong and Johnny Satur who returned scores of 75 and 67 respective­ly.

Sarawak Economic Developmen­t Corporat ion ( SEDC) chairman Tan Sri Datuk Amar Abdul Aziz Husain gave away the main prizes.
