KUCHING: A man was killed in an accident at Jalan Demak Laut early yesterday.

Sarawak Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief Supt Alexson Naga Chabu said the deceased was identified as a 28-year- old Indonesian general worker. It is believed that he was on his way to a residential area when accident struck.

He was found dead by the medical personnel, who arrived at the scene around 8.30am after receiving an emergency call.

Preliminary investigation indicated that the Indonesian could have lost control of his motorcycle before crashing into the road shoulder and falling into the drain.

“It appears that a small bar inside the drain had pierced through the victim’s head; moreover, he was pinned down by his motorcycle with his head facing down, submerged in water.

“Wedidnotfindanyidentification document on the victim. Further investigation revealed that the victim had borrowed the motorcycle from one security personnel at a nearby factory at around 3am, after attending dinner at his workplace,” he said when contacted.

It is believed that the accident could have occurred at around 4am, said Alexson.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act, 1987.
