SERDANG: The Agro Nisaa-i microfinancing programme has been seen as capable of helping women agropreneurs, especially those in the B40 group, to increase their income and expand their businesses in the agricultural sector.

Minister of Agriculture and Agro- based Industry Datuk Salahuddin Ayub said the maximum financing of up to RM30,000 offered by Agrobank is an initiative to ensure better future for women agropreneurs by improving their socio- economic status.

“I am confident that a programme like this can encourage women to be more serious in contributing to the agricultural sector and bring themselves out of poverty,” he told reporters after launching the Agro Nisaa’-i microfinancing programme in conjunction with the Malaysia Agriculture, Horticulture and Agro-Tourism Show 2018 ( Maha 2018) at the Malaysia Agro Exposition Park Serdang here yesterday.

Also present was Agrobank chief executive officer Syed Alwi Mohamed Sultan, who said women agropreneurs participating the programme would also receive personal accident takaful (insurance) coverage for a year.

“The scheme incorporates three key concepts, namely the development of credit discipline foundation, issuance of continuous financing and consistent and systematic monitoring,” he said.

For the record, Agrobank also provides a comprehensive financing solution for agriculture which includes upstream activities such as inputs for agricultural production and downstream activities such as processing and sales of agricultural products to consumers. — Bernama
